TECHNIQUES FOR CONFIGURING USE OF AN ENERGY SAVING MODE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17529847 titled 'TECHNIQUES FOR CONFIGURING USE OF AN ENERGY SAVING MODE

Simplified Explanation

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described in this patent application. The invention focuses on energy-saving modes in a wireless network device and how a user equipment (UE) can efficiently communicate with the device. Here are the key points:

  • The UE receives a first control message from a wireless network device, such as a base station or a transmission reception point (TRP) of the base station. The message contains information about a set of energy-saving modes available in the device.
  • The UE also receives a second control message indicating a specific energy-saving mode from the set. This mode determines the number of channel state information (CSI) reference signal (CSI-RS) resources used by the wireless network device.
  • Based on the selected energy-saving mode, the UE monitors one or more CSI-RS resources for a CSI-RS signal. The CSI-RS provides important information about the wireless channel's quality.
  • The UE then measures the CSI-RS and uses these measurements to generate CSI feedback.
  • Finally, the UE transmits the CSI feedback to the wireless network device, allowing it to optimize its operations based on the received information.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Wireless communication systems and networks
  • Mobile devices and smartphones
  • Internet of Things (IoT) devices
  • 5G and future generations of wireless networks

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Efficient energy usage in wireless network devices
  • Optimizing the use of CSI-RS resources
  • Enhancing the accuracy of CSI feedback for better network performance

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved energy efficiency in wireless networks
  • Enhanced communication reliability and quality
  • Better network performance and optimization

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive, from a wireless network device (e.g., a base station or a transmission reception point (TRP) of the base station), a first control message comprising an indication of a set of energy saving modes of the wireless network device. The UE may receive a second control message indicating a first energy saving mode from the set of energy saving modes, where the first energy saving mode may be indicative of a number of channel state information (CSI) reference signal (CSI-RS) resources used by the wireless network device. The UE may monitor one or more of the CSI-RS resources for a CSI-RS in accordance with the first energy saving mode, and transmit, to the wireless network device, CSI feedback determined based on measurements made by the UE of the CSI-RS.
