ACCELERATE MEMORY DECOMPRESSION OF A LARGE PHYSICALLY SCATTERED BUFFER ON A MULTI-SOCKET SYMMETRIC MULTIPROCESSING ARCHITECTURE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17526016 titled 'ACCELERATE MEMORY DECOMPRESSION OF A LARGE PHYSICALLY SCATTERED BUFFER ON A MULTI-SOCKET SYMMETRIC MULTIPROCESSING ARCHITECTURE

Simplified Explanation

The abstract of this patent application describes a method for identifying and compressing data stored in different subsystems. The method involves identifying a first subsystem and a second subsystem that store fragments of a requested data. The compression method used to compress the data in each subsystem is also identified. The method further involves identifying the accelerators in each subsystem and offloading the compressed data from the local memory of each subsystem to the respective accelerators. The offloading process includes providing a decompression method for the compressed data.

  • Identifies and compresses data stored in different subsystems
  • Offloads compressed data from local memory to accelerators
  • Provides a decompression method for the compressed data

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in various fields where data compression and offloading are required, such as:

  • Cloud computing
  • Big data analytics
  • Data storage systems

Problems Solved

This technology addresses the following problems:

  • Efficient compression and offloading of data stored in different subsystems
  • Streamlining data processing and analysis
  • Reducing memory usage and improving system performance

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include:

  • Improved data compression and decompression efficiency
  • Faster data processing and analysis
  • Optimal utilization of system resources
  • Enhanced system performance and responsiveness

Original Abstract Submitted

Aspects of the invention include identifying a first subsystem and a second subsystem of a plurality of subsystems respectively storing a first compressed data and a second compressed data, wherein the first compressed data and the second compressed data are fragments of a requested data. A compression method used to compress the first compressed data and second compressed data is identified. A first accelerator of first subsystem and a second accelerator of the second subsystem is identified. The first compressed data from a first local memory of the first subsystem is offloaded to the first accelerator, and the second compressed data from a second local memory of the second subsystem is offloaded to the second accelerator, wherein offloading comprises provided a decompression method for the first compressed data and the second compressed data.
