SENSOR DATA FOR RANGING PROCEDURE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17487979 titled 'SENSOR DATA FOR RANGING PROCEDURE

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes techniques for wireless communication that involve a ranging procedure between two user equipment (UE) devices. During this procedure, one or more ranging signals are exchanged between the first UE and the second UE.

  • The first UE collects sensor data from a set of sensors connected to it.
  • The first UE sends the sensor data to the second UE along with the ranging procedure.
  • The second UE uses the ranging measurement data from the ranging signals and the received sensor data to determine the distance between the two UEs.

Potential Applications

  • Location-based services: The technology can be used to accurately determine the distance between two UEs, enabling applications such as indoor navigation or asset tracking.
  • Internet of Things (IoT): By incorporating sensor data into the ranging procedure, the technology can enhance IoT applications that require precise distance measurements.

Problems Solved

  • Accurate distance measurement: By combining ranging signals and sensor data, the technology provides a more accurate method for determining the distance between two UEs.
  • Efficient data transmission: The sensor data is transmitted in association with the ranging procedure, reducing the need for separate data transmissions.

Benefits

  • Improved accuracy: The combination of ranging measurement data and sensor data enhances the accuracy of distance calculations.
  • Cost and energy efficiency: By integrating the sensor data with the ranging procedure, the technology reduces the need for additional data transmissions, resulting in cost and energy savings.

Original Abstract Submitted

Disclosed are techniques for wireless communication. In an aspect, a first UE and a second UE perform a ranging procedure which includes communication of one or more ranging signals between the first UE and the second UE. The first UE obtains sensor data via a set of sensors coupled to the first UE, and transmits the sensor data to the second UE in association with the ranging procedure. The second UE determines a distance between the first UE and the second UE based on ranging measurement data associated with the one or more ranging signals and the sensor data.
