Reconfigurable Multi-Phase Power Converter - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17484992 titled 'Reconfigurable Multi-Phase Power Converter

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a reconfigurable multi-phase power converter. It consists of a first primary power converter that generates a regulated supply voltage to a first node, and a second primary power converter that generates a regulated supply voltage to a second node. The apparatus also includes multiple secondary power converters and a multiplexer circuit that selects one of the secondary power converters to provide an output current to either the first or second regulated supply voltage nodes.

  • The apparatus includes a first primary power converter that generates a regulated supply voltage to a first node.
  • It also includes a second primary power converter that generates a regulated supply voltage to a second node.
  • The apparatus further comprises N secondary power converters, where N is an integer value of one or more.
  • A multiplexer circuit is included to select one of the N secondary power converters.
  • The selected secondary power converter provides an output current to either the first or second regulated supply voltage nodes.

Potential Applications

  • Power supply systems for electronic devices
  • Renewable energy systems
  • Electric vehicle charging stations

Original Abstract Submitted

A reconfigurable multi-phase power converter is disclosed. An apparatus comprises a first primary power converter configured to generate a first regulated supply voltage to a first regulated supply voltage node and a second primary power converter configured to generate a second regulated supply voltage to a second regulated supply voltage node. The apparatus further includes N secondary power converters, wherein N is an integer value of one or more, and a multiplexer circuit configured to select the at least one of the N secondary power converters to provide an output current to one of the first or second regulated supply voltage nodes.
