ENHANCED BEAM FAILURE INDICATOR AND APPLICATIONS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17483306 titled 'ENHANCED BEAM FAILURE INDICATOR AND APPLICATIONS

Simplified Explanation

The present disclosure provides techniques for enhancing beam failure indications and detections in wireless communication systems.

  • Techniques for identifying and indicating reasons associated with beam failures are provided.
  • User equipment (UE) evaluates multiple beam failure indicator (BFI) trigger conditions based on beam failure detection (BFD) reference signal (RS) measurements.
  • The UE logs different types of BFIs based on the evaluation.
  • If a logged number of BFIs exceeds a threshold value within a measurement period, the UE declares a beam failure.
  • The UE transmits an indication of the beam failure and a reason for the beam failure to a network entity based on the different types of BFIs detected.

Potential Applications

  • Wireless communication systems
  • Cellular networks
  • 5G networks

Problems Solved

  • Enhancing beam failure indications and detections
  • Identifying reasons associated with beam failures
  • Improving beam failure detection in wireless communication systems

Benefits

  • Improved reliability of wireless communication systems
  • Enhanced network performance
  • Efficient troubleshooting and maintenance of cellular networks

Original Abstract Submitted

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for enhancing beam failure indications and detections. In particular, the present disclosure provides techniques for identifying and indicating reasons associated with beam failures. For example, in aspects, a user equipment (UE) may evaluate multiple beam failure indicator (BFI) trigger conditions based on beam failure detection (BFD) reference signal (RS) measurements. The UE logs different types of BFIs based on the evaluating. If a logged number of BFIs exceeds a threshold value within a measurement period, the UE declares a beam failure and transmits, to a network entity, an indication of the beam failure and a reason for the beam failure based on the different types of BFIs detected.
