DEVICE COOPERATION FOR MITIGATION OF DEAFNESS IN SIDELINK COMMUNICATIONS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17453693 titled 'DEVICE COOPERATION FOR MITIGATION OF DEAFNESS IN SIDELINK COMMUNICATIONS

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications. It introduces a cooperation agreement between two user equipment (UE) devices, where one UE acts as a proxy for the other UE. Here are the key points:

  • Handshake procedure: The first and second UE devices establish a cooperation agreement by designating specific frequency and time resources.
  • Proxy device: The first UE acts as a proxy for the second UE in receiving and transmitting sidelink messages.
  • Sidelink message: The first UE receives a sidelink message from a third UE, intended for the second UE.
  • Proxy determination: The first UE decides to act as a proxy for the second UE if the sidelink message is received during the designated time resource.
  • Feedback transmission: The first UE sends feedback information associated with the sidelink message to the third UE.
  • Sidelink message forwarding: The first UE transmits the sidelink message to the second UE on behalf of the third UE.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Cooperative communication: This technology enables UEs to cooperate and share resources, improving overall wireless communication efficiency.
  • Proxy device functionality: The ability for one UE to act as a proxy for another UE opens up possibilities for various applications, such as relaying messages or data between devices.
  • Sidelink communication: The patent application focuses on sidelink communication, which is a direct communication link between nearby devices without the need for a cellular network. This technology can enhance the capabilities and reliability of sidelink communication.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Resource allocation: The cooperation agreement allows for efficient allocation of frequency and time resources between UEs, ensuring optimal utilization.
  • Proxy determination: The method of determining whether the first UE should act as a proxy for the second UE simplifies the decision-making process and ensures effective message forwarding.
  • Feedback mechanism: The feedback information transmitted by the first UE provides valuable insights to the third UE, improving the overall communication quality.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Enhanced communication efficiency: By designating a proxy device, the system optimizes resource allocation and improves overall communication efficiency.
  • Reliable message forwarding: The proxy device ensures that sidelink messages reach their intended recipients, enhancing the reliability of communication.
  • Simplified decision-making: The method of determining proxy device status simplifies the decision-making process, reducing complexity and improving system performance.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A first and second user equipment (UE) may perform a handshake procedure to establish a cooperation agreement designating one or more frequency and time resources which the first UE is to act as the proxy device for the second UE. For example, the first UE may receive a sidelink message directed to a second UE from a third UE. The first UE may determine to act as a proxy device for the second UE with respect to the sidelink message based on the sidelink message being received during a time resource designated for the first UE to act as the proxy device for the second UE. The first UE may proceed to transmit to the third UE feedback information associated with the sidelink message, and may transmit the sidelink message to the second UE on behalf of the third UE.
