UNIFIED PAGING EARLY INDICATION DESIGN - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17444104 titled 'UNIFIED PAGING EARLY INDICATION DESIGN

Simplified Explanation

Abstract Explanation

The abstract of this patent application describes a wireless communication system where a user equipment (UE) can receive a paging early indication (PEI) to determine if it needs to be paged. The PEI is based on a sequence, which can be a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH)-based sequence. The PEI can be received based on the UE's sequence configuration or a distributed resource block allocation associated with the sequence. The UE can then selectively process a paging PDCCH based on the PEI.

  • User equipment (UE) can receive a paging early indication (PEI) to determine if it needs to be paged.
  • The PEI is based on a sequence, which can be a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH)-based sequence.
  • The PEI can be received based on the UE's sequence configuration or a distributed resource block allocation associated with the sequence.
  • The UE can selectively process a paging PDCCH based on the PEI.

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in various wireless communication systems where efficient paging of user equipment is required. Some potential applications include:

  • Cellular networks: This technology can be used in 4G and 5G cellular networks to improve the efficiency of paging user equipment, reducing unnecessary signaling and improving overall network performance.
  • Internet of Things (IoT): With the increasing number of IoT devices, efficient paging mechanisms are crucial. This technology can be applied in IoT networks to optimize paging and reduce power consumption of IoT devices.
  • Public safety networks: Paging is critical in public safety networks to quickly alert and communicate with emergency responders. This technology can enhance the paging process in such networks, ensuring timely and reliable communication.

Problems Solved

This technology addresses several problems in wireless communication systems related to paging of user equipment:

  • Efficient resource utilization: By providing a paging early indication, unnecessary paging messages can be avoided, reducing resource wastage and improving overall network efficiency.
  • Power consumption optimization: By selectively processing paging messages based on the PEI, user equipment can conserve power by avoiding unnecessary wake-ups and processing.
  • Reduced signaling overhead: The use of a sequence-based PEI allows for more efficient signaling, reducing the overall signaling overhead in the network.

Benefits

The use of this technology in wireless communication systems offers several benefits:

  • Improved network efficiency: By optimizing the paging process, network resources can be utilized more efficiently, leading to improved overall network performance.
  • Power savings: User equipment can conserve power by selectively processing paging messages based on the PEI, resulting in extended battery life.
  • Reduced signaling overhead: The sequence-based PEI reduces unnecessary signaling, minimizing the impact on network capacity and improving scalability.

Original Abstract Submitted

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may receive a paging early indication (PEI) indicating whether at least one UE in a UE group or a UE sub-group including the UE is to be paged in a paging occasion. In some aspects, a sequence on which the PEI is based is a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH)-based sequence. In some aspects, the PEI is a sequence-based PEI and is received based at least in part on a sequence configuration configured on the UE. In some aspects, the PEI is a sequence-based PEI and is received based at least in part on a distributed resource block allocation associated with the sequence. The UE may selectively process a paging PDCCH associated with the paging occasion based at least in part on the PEI. Numerous other aspects are described.
