MEASUREMENT ENHANCEMENT IN RADIO RESOURCE CONTROL (RRC) CONNECTED FOR USER EQUIPMENT (UE) - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17442669 titled 'MEASUREMENT ENHANCEMENT IN RADIO RESOURCE CONTROL (RRC) CONNECTED FOR USER EQUIPMENT (UE)

Simplified Explanation

The patent application discusses techniques to improve measurement for User Equipment (UE) in Radio Resource Control (RRC) Connected mode for configuring Carrier Aggregation (CA) and/or Dual Connectivity (DC).

  • The patent application describes a UE device that transmits a message requesting assistance information for measurements.
  • The UE device receives a message that configures the UE with measurement information.
  • The UE device performs measurements on different frequencies, including non-serving frequencies associated with neighboring cells.
  • The UE device sends a report indicating the measurements for at least one frequency.
  • The UE device receives a message that configures the UE with the measured frequency.

Potential Applications

  • This technology can be applied in cellular networks to improve the configuration of Carrier Aggregation and Dual Connectivity for User Equipment.
  • It can enhance the measurement process for UE devices, allowing for better utilization of available frequencies and improved network performance.

Problems Solved

  • The technology solves the problem of efficiently configuring Carrier Aggregation and Dual Connectivity for UE devices in cellular networks.
  • It addresses the challenge of accurately measuring different frequencies, including non-serving frequencies, to optimize network performance.

Benefits

  • The technology improves the measurement process for UE devices, leading to better utilization of available frequencies and enhanced network performance.
  • It enables more efficient configuration of Carrier Aggregation and Dual Connectivity, resulting in improved data rates and network capacity.
  • The techniques described in the patent application can enhance the overall user experience by providing a more stable and reliable connection.

Original Abstract Submitted

Techniques discussed herein can facilitate enhancements to measurement for a User Equipment (UE) in Radio Resource Control (RRC) Connected mode for configuration of Carrier Aggregation (CA) and/or Dual Connectivity (DC). One example embodiment comprises a UE device comprising a processor configured to perform operations comprising: transmitting a UE Assistance Information message comprising a measurement request; receiving a first RRCReconfiguration message comprising a measConfig information element (IE); performing one or more measurements on each of on one or more frequencies based at least on the RRC measConfig IE, wherein the one or more frequencies comprise at least one non-serving frequency associated with a neighboring cell; transmitting a MeasurementReport message that indicates the one or more measurements for at least one of the one or more frequencies; and receiving a second RRCReconfiguration message that configures the UE with the at least one of the one or more frequencies.
