DISPLAY PANEL AND DISPLAY APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17420658 titled 'DISPLAY PANEL AND DISPLAY APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a display panel that includes a base substrate, thin film transistors, display elements, an encapsulating layer, and a touch electrode layer with mesh electrodes.

  • The display panel has a display region for displaying images.
  • The encapsulating layer encapsulates the display elements.
  • The touch electrode layer includes mesh electrodes on the side of the encapsulating layer away from the base substrate.
  • The encapsulating layer has different thicknesses in different regions of the display panel.
  • The organic encapsulating sub-layer has a smaller thickness in a transition region and a larger thickness in the display region.
  • The mesh electrode lines have different widths in different regions of the display panel.
  • The mesh electrode lines have a larger width in the transition region and a smaller width in the display region.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Consumer electronics such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops.
  • Display panels for televisions and monitors.
  • Automotive displays and infotainment systems.
  • Virtual reality and augmented reality devices.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Provides improved encapsulation of display elements, protecting them from external factors.
  • Enables touch functionality on the display panel.
  • Allows for a smooth transition between different regions of the display panel.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Enhanced durability and longevity of the display panel.
  • Improved touch sensitivity and accuracy.
  • Seamless integration of touch functionality with the display.
  • Provides a visually appealing and high-quality display experience.

Original Abstract Submitted

A display panel is provided. In a display region configured to display an image, the display panel includes a base substrate; thin film transistors and display elements on the base substrate; an encapsulating layer encapsulating the display elements; and a touch electrode layer including mesh electrodes on a side of the encapsulating layer away from the base substrate. The encapsulating layer includes at least an organic encapsulating sub-layer having a first thickness in at least a sub-region of the transition region, and a second thickness in the display region, the first thickness being smaller than the second thickness. Mesh electrode lines of the mesh electrodes have a first line width in at least the sub-region of the transition region, and a second line width in the display region, the first line width being greater than the second line width.
