DISPLAY SUBSTRATE, CONTROL METHOD THEREOF, AND DISPLAY DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17418812 titled 'DISPLAY SUBSTRATE, CONTROL METHOD THEREOF, AND DISPLAY DEVICE

Simplified Explanation

The present disclosure relates to a display substrate with improved display effect by providing auxiliary light sources when external ambient light is weak.

  • The display substrate includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a liquid crystal layer, a plurality of pixel electrodes, and a plurality of light-emitting elements.
  • The pixel electrodes and light-emitting elements are both located on the side of the first substrate near the liquid crystal layer.
  • The light-emitting elements supply auxiliary light sources to ensure a display effect, especially when external ambient light is weak.
  • Light emitted by the light-emitting elements is directly emitted from the second substrate, preventing leakage from the lateral sides and enhancing the display effect.

Potential Applications

The technology can be applied in various display devices such as smartphones, tablets, televisions, and monitors to improve display quality in different lighting conditions.

Problems Solved

1. Ensures a consistent display effect even in low ambient light conditions. 2. Prevents light leakage from the display substrate, enhancing overall display quality.

Benefits

1. Improved display quality and visibility. 2. Enhanced user experience in various lighting environments. 3. Energy-efficient by providing auxiliary light sources only when needed.

Potential Commercial Applications

The technology can be utilized in consumer electronics, automotive displays, digital signage, and other display applications to enhance visual performance and user experience.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be the use of ambient light sensors in display devices to adjust brightness levels based on external lighting conditions. However, the disclosed technology goes a step further by providing auxiliary light sources to ensure consistent display quality in all lighting environments.

Unanswered Questions

How does the technology impact power consumption in display devices?

The article does not provide information on the energy efficiency of the display substrate and whether the use of auxiliary light sources affects power consumption.

Are there any limitations to the size or resolution of displays that can incorporate this technology?

The article does not address whether there are any restrictions on the size or resolution of displays that can implement this display substrate technology.

Original Abstract Submitted

The present disclosure discloses a display substrate, a control method thereof and a display device, and relates to the field of display technologies. The display substrate includes: a first substrate, a second substrate, a liquid crystal layer, a plurality of pixel electrodes, and a plurality of light-emitting elements. The plurality of pixel electrodes and the plurality of light-emitting elements are both disposed on a side, proximal to the liquid crystal layer, of the first substrate. When external ambient light is weak, the plurality of light-emitting elements in the display substrate may supply auxiliary light sources to the display substrate, such that the display substrate normally emits light to ensure a display effect. Moreover, since light emitted by the plurality of light-emitting elements may be directly emitted from the second substrate, the light emitted by the light-emitting elements can be prevented from leaking from lateral sides of the second substrate, thereby ensuring the display effect of the display substrate.
