HOST-CONTROLLED SERVICE LEVELS - A simplified explanation of the abstract
- This abstract for appeared for US patent application number 17720474 Titled 'HOST-CONTROLLED SERVICE LEVELS'
Simplified Explanation
This abstract describes a method, apparatus, and storage media for implementing host-controlled service levels in a storage system. The method involves obtaining information about virtual machines, including their identifiers and assigned service levels. When an input-output operation is received at a storage node, the identifier of the virtual machine initiating the operation is extracted. Based on this identifier, the corresponding service level assigned to that virtual machine is identified. The storage resources allocated for additional input-output operations from other virtual machines are then controlled based on the identified service level.
Original Abstract Submitted
Methods, apparatus, and processor-readable storage media for implementing host-controlled service levels are provided herein. An example computer-implemented method includes obtaining, at a storage node of a storage system, information comprising one or more identifiers and one or more service levels that are assigned to virtual machines identified by the one or more identifiers; extracting one of the one or more identifiers from an input-output operation received at the storage node; identifying, based on the extracted identifier, the service level that is assigned to the virtual machine that initiated the input-output operation; and controlling storage resources allocated for one or more additional input-output operations from one or more of the virtual machines based at least in part on the identified service level.
