CODING ENHANCEMENT USING SPINAL CODES - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240322944 titled 'CODING ENHANCEMENT USING SPINAL CODES

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication using spinal codes to encode and decode information in messages.

  • Transmitter device encodes information using a spinal code and maps sets of bits to symbols for transmission.
  • Symbols are transmitted in an order based on variable quantities of bits, with smaller k values at the beginning and larger k values at the end.
  • Receiver device decodes symbols, identifies the k value of each symbol, and may indicate error likelihood via a feedback message.
  • Transmitter device may retransmit a portion of the message based on the feedback received.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Use of spinal codes for encoding and decoding information in wireless communication.
  • Variable quantities of bits (k values) used to map sets of bits to symbols for transmission.
  • Order of symbol transmission based on the k values to optimize communication efficiency.

Potential Applications:

  • Wireless communication systems and devices.
  • Error correction and feedback mechanisms in wireless networks.

Problems Solved:

  • Efficient encoding and decoding of information in wireless communication.
  • Error detection and correction in message transmission.

Benefits:

  • Improved reliability and accuracy in wireless communication.
  • Enhanced feedback mechanisms for error correction.

Commercial Applications: Wireless communication technologies for telecommunication companies, IoT devices, and data transmission systems.

Prior Art: Prior research on error correction codes in wireless communication systems.

Frequently Updated Research: Ongoing studies on optimizing spinal codes for efficient wireless communication.

Questions about Wireless Communication using Spinal Codes: 1. How do spinal codes improve the efficiency of wireless communication? 2. What are the potential challenges in implementing spinal codes in wireless networks?

Original Abstract Submitted

methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. a transmitter device may encode information for a message using a spinal code. the transmitter device may divide the information into sets of bits each including a variable quantity k of bits, and map the sets of bits to symbols to generate a message. the transmitter device may transmit the symbols in an order based on the k values (symbols with smaller k values at the beginning of the message and larger k values at the end). based on receiving the message, a receiver device may identify the k of each symbol and decode the symbols. the receiver device may identify a partial codeword or determine a likelihood of error associated with the message, which the receiver device may indicate via a feedback message. the transmitter device may retransmit a portion of the message based on the feedback.
