MULTILAYER CERAMIC CAPACITOR - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240266118 titled 'MULTILAYER CERAMIC CAPACITOR

The multilayer ceramic capacitor described in the patent application consists of a multilayer body with dielectric ceramic layers and internal electrode layers laminated alternately, as well as a pair of external electrodes on both end portions connected to the internal electrode layers.

  • The pair of external electrodes each have a base region covering the end surfaces and connected to the internal electrode layers, and a cover region on top of the base region.
  • The cover region includes maximum thickness portions in a specific region corresponding to the internal electrode layers at both outermost ends in the lamination direction.

Potential Applications: - Electronic devices - Circuit boards - Power supplies

Problems Solved: - Improved capacitor performance - Enhanced reliability - Better electrical connectivity

Benefits: - Increased efficiency - Reduced risk of electrical failure - Enhanced overall device performance

Commercial Applications: Title: Advanced Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors for Enhanced Electronics This technology can be utilized in various electronic devices, circuit boards, and power supplies to improve performance and reliability. The market implications include increased demand for high-quality capacitors in the electronics industry.

Questions about Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors: 1. How do multilayer ceramic capacitors compare to other types of capacitors in terms of performance and reliability? Multilayer ceramic capacitors are known for their high capacitance density and stability, making them ideal for various electronic applications.

2. What are the key factors to consider when selecting a multilayer ceramic capacitor for a specific electronic device? When choosing a multilayer ceramic capacitor, factors such as capacitance value, voltage rating, and temperature stability should be taken into account to ensure optimal performance.

Original Abstract Submitted

a multilayer ceramic capacitor includes a multilayer body including dielectric ceramic layers and internal electrode layers laminated alternately in a lamination direction, and a pair of external electrodes on both end portions in the length direction of the multilayer body and respectively connected to the internal electrode layers. the pair of external electrodes each include a base region covering at least each of the first and second end surfaces and connected to the internal electrode layers, and a cover region on the base region to cover the base region. the cover region includes maximum thickness portions each including a maximum thickness in the cover region, in a region corresponding to the ranges of about 10 m in the lamination direction centered around internal electrode layers at both outermost ends in the lamination direction among the internal electrode layers.
