PRODUCTION OF PU FOAMS - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18575870 titled 'PRODUCTION OF PU FOAMS
Simplified Explanation:
The patent application describes a process for producing PU foams, specifically flexible PU foams, using recycled polyols and isocyanate components with catalysts to facilitate the reactions. The recycled polyol is obtained through the hydrolysis of polyurethane with water and a specific base-catalyst combination.
- The process involves reacting recycled polyols with isocyanate components in the presence of catalysts.
- The recycled polyols are obtained from the hydrolysis of polyurethane using water and a base-catalyst combination.
- The catalysts used in the process facilitate the isocyanate-polyol reactions and trimerization reactions.
- The resulting PU foams are flexible and can have various applications in industries such as furniture, automotive, and construction.
- This innovation promotes sustainability by utilizing recycled materials in the production of PU foams.

Original Abstract Submitted
A process for producing PU foams, preferably flexible PU foams, can be performed by reacting at least one polyol component, comprising a recycled polyol, with at least one isocyanate component in the presence of one or more catalysts that catalyse the isocyanate-polyol and/or isocyanate-water reactions and/or isocyanate trimerization. The recycled polyol is obtained by hydrolysis of a polyurethane, by contacting said polyurethane with water in the presence of a specific base-catalyst-combination.
