COMMUNICATION METHOD - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18432719 titled 'COMMUNICATION METHOD

Simplified Explanation

The communication method described in the abstract involves supporting a multicast and broadcast service in a mobile communication system by configuring a multicast radio bearer for a user equipment, switching communication paths in response to handover, and executing the handover after the switch.

  • Configuring a multicast radio bearer (MRB) with a Point-to-Multipoint (PTM) communication path for user equipment in a connected state.
  • Switching from the PTM communication path to a Point-to-Point (PTP) communication path when handover to a second cell is determined.
  • Executing the handover after switching to the PTP communication path.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in mobile communication systems to efficiently support multicast and broadcast services, improving the overall user experience.

Problems Solved

1. Seamless handover of user equipment between cells in a mobile communication system. 2. Efficient management of multicast and broadcast services in a mobile network.

Benefits

1. Enhanced user experience with uninterrupted multicast and broadcast services. 2. Optimal utilization of network resources for efficient communication.

Potential Commercial Applications

Optimizing multicast and broadcast services in mobile networks can benefit telecommunications companies looking to provide high-quality services to their customers.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be the use of handover techniques in mobile communication systems to ensure continuous connectivity for user equipment.

What are the technical specifications of the communication method described in the patent application?

The technical specifications of the communication method, such as the specific protocols used for handover and configuration of multicast radio bearers, are not detailed in the abstract. Further information on the implementation and compatibility with existing mobile communication standards would be needed to fully understand the technical aspects of this innovation.

How does this technology compare to existing solutions for supporting multicast and broadcast services in mobile communication systems?

The abstract does not provide a direct comparison to existing solutions or technologies for supporting multicast and broadcast services in mobile communication systems. Further research and analysis would be required to determine the specific advantages and differences of this technology compared to current methods.

Original Abstract Submitted

In a first aspect, a communication method is used in a mobile communication system for supporting a multicast and broadcast service (MBS). The communication method includes: configuring, by a base station managing a first cell, a multicast radio bearer (MRB) including a Point-to-Multipoint (PTM) communication path for a user equipment in a radio resource control (RRC) connected state; switching, by the base station, from the PTM communication path to a Point-to-Point (PTP) communication path in response to determining handover of the user equipment from the first cell to a second cell; and executing, by the base station, the handover after the switching to the PTP communication path.
