PHASE TRACKING REFERENCE SIGNAL TRANSMISSION METHOD AND APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18428263 titled 'PHASE TRACKING REFERENCE SIGNAL TRANSMISSION METHOD AND APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

The patent application abstract describes a method and apparatus for transmitting a phase tracking reference signal (PTRS) to improve demodulation performance in communication systems.

  • The method involves determining a first PTRS pattern and transmitting a PTRS based on this pattern, where the PTRS pattern belongs to a set of patterns and none of the PTRS groups in each pattern are located at the tail of the OFDM symbol.
  • Each PTRS pattern includes multiple PTRS groups, with each group consisting of consecutive PTRS sampling points.

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in various communication systems where accurate demodulation performance is crucial, such as wireless networks, cellular systems, and satellite communications.

Problems Solved

1. Improved demodulation performance by using PTRS patterns that are strategically located within OFDM symbols. 2. Enhanced signal tracking and synchronization in communication systems.

Benefits

1. Increased reliability and accuracy in demodulation processes. 2. Better signal quality and reduced interference. 3. Enhanced overall performance of communication systems.

Potential Commercial Applications

The technology can be utilized in 5G networks, IoT devices, radar systems, and other wireless communication applications to optimize signal processing and improve data transmission efficiency.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be the use of pilot signals for channel estimation and synchronization in communication systems. However, the specific method of transmitting PTRS patterns as described in this patent application may be a novel approach to improving demodulation performance.

Unanswered Questions

How does this method compare to existing PTRS transmission techniques in terms of complexity and efficiency?

The article does not provide a direct comparison with existing PTRS transmission techniques, so it is unclear how this method stacks up in terms of complexity and efficiency.

What impact could this technology have on the overall spectral efficiency of communication systems?

The article does not discuss the potential impact of this technology on the spectral efficiency of communication systems, leaving this question unanswered.
