SENSOR CLEANING SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18375012 titled 'SENSOR CLEANING SYSTEM

The abstract describes a sensor cleaning system for a vehicle, including a sensor unit, a cover lens, an outer cleaner, a transmission unit, and a control unit.

  • Sensor unit monitors the external environment of the vehicle.
  • Cover lens covers a measurement region of the sensor unit.
  • Outer cleaner selectively contacts the cover lens.
  • Transmission unit transmits driving force to the outer cleaner.
  • Control unit adjusts the position of the outer cleaner to clean the cover lens.

Potential Applications: - Automotive industry for vehicle sensor maintenance. - Robotics for cleaning sensors in various applications. - Industrial automation for sensor cleaning in manufacturing processes.

Problems Solved: - Ensures accurate sensor readings by keeping the cover lens clean. - Reduces maintenance time and costs for sensor upkeep. - Improves overall performance and reliability of sensor systems.

Benefits: - Enhanced sensor accuracy and efficiency. - Extended sensor lifespan and reduced downtime. - Streamlined maintenance processes for vehicles and machinery.

Commercial Applications: Title: "Advanced Sensor Cleaning System for Vehicles and Robotics" This technology can be used in automotive manufacturing, robotics, industrial automation, and other industries requiring precise sensor data.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the sensor cleaning system improve the performance of vehicle sensors? - The system ensures accurate readings by keeping the cover lens clean, enhancing overall sensor efficiency. 2. What are the potential cost savings associated with implementing this sensor cleaning system? - By reducing maintenance time and costs, the system can lead to significant savings for vehicle manufacturers and other industries.

Original Abstract Submitted

A sensor cleaning system includes: a sensor unit configured to monitor an external environment of a vehicle; a cover lens configured to cover a measurement region of the sensor unit; an outer cleaner configured to selectively come in contact with the cover lens; and a transmission unit configured to transmit a driving force of a driving unit to the outer cleaner. The sensor cleaning system also includes a control unit configured to adjust a position of the outer cleaner such that the outer cleaner selectively comes in contact with the cover lens by the driving force of the driving unit, and to move the cover lens up and down.
