METHANATION CATALYST PROCESSING METHOD, METHANE PRODUCING METHOD, AND METHANATION CATALYST - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18307060 titled 'METHANATION CATALYST PROCESSING METHOD, METHANE PRODUCING METHOD, AND METHANATION CATALYST

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for processing a methanation catalyst to prevent degradation of its performance. The method involves oxidizing nickel in the catalyst through a heat treatment process using an oxygen gas.

  • The method aims to suppress degradation of a methanation catalyst's performance.
  • The catalyst contains nickel as a catalyst component.
  • The heat treatment process involves supplying an oxygen gas containing oxygen to a reactor housing the catalyst.
  • The oxygen gas is supplied to the reactor at a specific rate per gram of catalyst.
  • The supply rate of oxygen to the catalyst ranges from 0.0213 mmol-O/sec·g-cat. to 0.0638 mmol-O/sec·g-cat.
  • The heat treatment process lasts for a minimum of 30 minutes.

Original Abstract Submitted

Provided is a methanation catalyst processing method capable of suppressing degradation of a catalyst performance. A methanation catalyst processing method of the present disclosure includes oxidizing nickel through a heat treatment of a methanation catalyst by supplying an oxygen gas containing oxygen to a reactor, the reactor housing the methanation catalyst containing the nickel as a catalyst component. In the oxidizing, the oxygen gas is supplied to the reactor such that the oxygen is supplied to 1 g of the methanation catalyst at a supply rate in a range of from 0.0213 mmol-O/sec·g-cat. to 0.0638 mmol-O/sec·g-cat., and a time period of the heat treatment of the methanation catalyst by supplying the oxygen gas to the reactor is set to 30 minutes or more.
