METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ENCODING/DECODING IMAGE ON BASIS OF PICTURE HEADER INCLUDING INFORMATION RELATING TO CO-LOCATED PICTURE, AND METHOD FOR TRANSMITTING BITSTREAM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17782933 titled 'METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ENCODING/DECODING IMAGE ON BASIS OF PICTURE HEADER INCLUDING INFORMATION RELATING TO CO-LOCATED PICTURE, AND METHOD FOR TRANSMITTING BITSTREAM

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method and apparatus for encoding and decoding images.

  • The method involves deriving a temporal motion vector predictor for a current block based on a co-located picture.
  • The motion vector of the current block is then derived based on the temporal motion vector predictor.
  • A prediction block of the current block is generated using the motion vector.
  • The co-located picture is determined based on identification information included in the slice header of the current slice.
  • If the slice header does not include identification information, the co-located picture is determined based on identification information in the picture header of the current picture.

Original Abstract Submitted

An image encoding/decoding method and apparatus are provided. The image decoding method according to the present disclosure may comprise the steps of: deriving a temporal motion vector predictor for the current block on the basis of a co-located picture for the current block; deriving a motion vector of the current block on the basis of the temporal motion vector predictor; and generating a prediction block of the current block on the basis of the motion vector, wherein the co-located picture is determined on the basis of identification information of the co-located picture, which is included in a slice header of the current slice including the current block, and when the slice header does not include identification information of the co-located picture, the co-located picture is determined on the basis of identification information of the co-located picture, which is included in a picture header of the current picture including the current block.
