DRIVING SUPPORT APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240127598 titled 'DRIVING SUPPORT APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

The driving support apparatus described in the patent application uses sensor information to determine the distance between a vehicle and an object, and adjusts driving support controls accordingly. When the initial distance measurement cannot be obtained, the apparatus uses an extrapolation distance to continue providing accurate driving support.

  • Sensor acquires information on distance between vehicle and object
  • Controller uses first recognition method to determine control distance
  • Recognition reliability of target object increases with acquisition time
  • Extrapolation distance used when initial distance cannot be acquired
  • Extrapolation distance used when acquisition time exceeds threshold

Potential Applications

The technology can be applied in autonomous vehicles, collision avoidance systems, and parking assistance systems.

Problems Solved

The technology helps in improving driving safety, reducing accidents, and enhancing overall driving experience.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include increased safety on the road, improved accuracy in driving support controls, and enhanced convenience for drivers.

Potential Commercial Applications

Potential commercial applications include automotive industry for integrating into vehicles, technology companies for developing advanced driving support systems, and insurance companies for promoting safer driving practices.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be the use of ultrasonic sensors in parking assistance systems in vehicles.

What are the specific types of sensors used in the driving support apparatus described in the patent application?

The specific types of sensors used in the driving support apparatus are not mentioned in the abstract.

How does the driving support apparatus handle situations where the target object is moving?

The abstract does not provide information on how the driving support apparatus handles situations where the target object is moving.

Original Abstract Submitted

a driving support apparatus comprises a sensor configured to acquire sensor information that is used to acquire a distance between a vehicle and an object, and a controller configured to execute a driving support control using a first distance, which is acquired by applying a first recognition method to the sensor information, representing a distance between the vehicle and a target object as a control distance. the first recognition method has a characteristic that a recognition reliability of the target object increases as an acquisition time of the first distance increases. the controller is configured to use an extrapolation distance representing the vehicle and the target object as the control distance, when the first distance can no longer be acquired and the acquisition time is equal to or longer than a predetermined threshold time.
