METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PERFORMING HANDOVER IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240107298 titled 'METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PERFORMING HANDOVER IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

Simplified Explanation

The present disclosure pertains to a handover method for a terminal in a 5G communication system, allowing for faster data rates and improved performance compared to 4G systems like LTE.

  • Receiving a message from a source cell containing information on target cells for a fast handover.
  • Performing a fast handover by reusing a radio bearer based on the received information.

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in various industries such as telecommunications, IoT, smart cities, and autonomous vehicles.

Problems Solved

1. Slow handover process in previous communication systems. 2. Limited data rates and performance in 4G networks.

Benefits

1. Faster data rates and improved performance. 2. Seamless handover between cells for uninterrupted connectivity.

Potential Commercial Applications

Optimizing network efficiency for telecom companies, enhancing connectivity for IoT devices, improving communication in smart city infrastructure, and enabling reliable communication for autonomous vehicles.

Possible Prior Art

Previous handover methods in 4G LTE networks may have limitations in terms of speed and efficiency compared to the fast handover method described in this patent application.

Unanswered Questions

How does this technology impact battery life of terminals during handover processes?

The abstract does not provide information on the potential impact of this technology on the battery life of terminals. It would be important to understand if the fast handover method has any implications on power consumption.

Are there any specific security measures implemented in this handover method to prevent unauthorized access to network resources?

The abstract does not mention any security features related to the handover method. It would be crucial to know if there are security protocols in place to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of data during the handover process.

Original Abstract Submitted

the present disclosure relates to a pre-5-generation (5g) or 5g communication system to be provided for supporting higher data rates beyond 4-generation (4g) communication system such as long term evolution (lte). a handover method for a terminal according to one embodiment of the present disclosure may include: receiving, from a source cell, a message including information on one or more target cells for performing a fast handover; and performing a fast handover by reusing a radio bearer based on the received information.
