Connector with Water Ingress Protection Cover - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240128679 titled 'Connector with Water Ingress Protection Cover

Simplified Explanation

The embodiment connector with a water ingress protection cover described in the abstract is a connector system that includes a female connector with a housing and a first body, a male connector, a first cover mounted on the female connector, and a second cover mounted on the male connector. The first cover can move along a pair of guide holes to cover the first body during coupling, while the second cover is positioned over the housing and coupled to the first cover when the male and female connectors are joined.

  • Female connector with housing and first body
  • Male connector
  • First cover on female connector
  • Second cover on male connector
  • First cover moves to cover first body during coupling
  • Second cover positioned over housing and coupled to first cover during coupling

Potential Applications

The connector system could be used in various industries where water ingress protection is important, such as:

  • Automotive industry
  • Marine industry
  • Aerospace industry

Problems Solved

The connector system helps prevent water ingress, which can lead to corrosion and electrical malfunctions in connected devices.

Benefits

Some benefits of this connector system include:

  • Improved reliability of connections
  • Protection against water damage
  • Easy to use and install

Potential Commercial Applications

The connector system could be valuable in commercial applications such as:

  • Waterproof electronic devices
  • Outdoor lighting systems
  • Underwater sensors

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art for this technology could be existing waterproof connectors used in various industries, but with different mechanisms for water ingress protection.

Unanswered Questions

How does the connector system handle extreme temperatures?

The article does not mention how the connector system performs in extreme temperature conditions, such as high heat or freezing temperatures. This information would be important for potential users in different environments.

Are there any limitations to the movement of the first cover during coupling?

The article does not address any potential limitations or restrictions on the movement of the first cover over the first body during coupling. Understanding any constraints on this movement could be crucial for proper usage of the connector system.

Original Abstract Submitted

an embodiment connector with a water ingress protection cover includes a female connector including a housing having a pair of guide holes extended along a first direction at both sides thereof and a first body extended from the housing, a male connector, a first cover mounted to an upper part of the female connector to be movable along the pair of guide holes, and a second cover mounted to an upper part of the male connector. the first cover is configured to move in the first direction to a position over the first body by the second cover or the male connector during coupling of the male connector to the female connector, and the second cover is positioned over the housing and coupled to the first cover in a state in which the male connector is coupled to the female connector.
