CONTROL METHOD FOR SAFE TRANSITION TO MANUAL DRIVING MODE IN AUTONOMOUS VEHICLE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240124031 titled 'CONTROL METHOD FOR SAFE TRANSITION TO MANUAL DRIVING MODE IN AUTONOMOUS VEHICLE

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a system where an autonomous vehicle transitions to manual driving mode in a safe manner when requested by the driver.

  • Control operations are performed to maintain the vehicle speed designated by the driver, ensure safe distances between vehicles, and change the driving lane and route.
  • A warning signal is provided to the driver indicating that a safe transition to manual driving mode is possible.
  • The autonomous vehicle transitions to manual mode while ensuring the safety of the vehicle.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in autonomous vehicles to allow drivers to take control when needed, providing a sense of security and control.

Problems Solved

This technology solves the issue of transitioning from autonomous to manual driving mode seamlessly and safely, ensuring the driver can take control when necessary.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include increased driver confidence, improved safety, and a smoother transition between autonomous and manual driving modes.

Potential Commercial Applications

A potential commercial application of this technology could be in the automotive industry, where autonomous vehicles are becoming more prevalent, and drivers may want the option to take control when desired.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be systems that allow for manual override in autonomous vehicles, but the specific control operations and safety measures described in this patent application may be unique.

Original Abstract Submitted

when there is a request of a driver for transition to manual driving mode while the autonomous vehicle is driving in autonomous driving mode, the autonomous vehicle is set to a safe state by performing control operations of maintaining a vehicle speed previously designated by the driver, maintaining safe distances between vehicles, and changing the driving land and the driving route. the driver is provided with a warning signal notifying that safe transition to the manual driving mode is possible. accordingly, the driving mode of the autonomous vehicle is transited to the manual mode in a state in which the safety of the autonomous vehicle is obtained.
