COMMUNICATION METHOD AND APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240129994 titled 'COMMUNICATION METHOD AND APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a patent application for a session management function (SMF) network element that controls the transmission and reception of user streams between a user plane function network element and an access network element.

  • The SMF network element instructs the transmit end to send a user stream and the receive end to receive the user stream using a data stream.
  • The SMF network element communicates with the user plane function network element and/or the access network element to coordinate the transmission and reception of user streams.
  • The SMF network element obtains information indicating how the user stream should be forwarded on the data network side and communicates this information to the user plane function network element.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in telecommunications networks to efficiently manage and control the transmission of user streams between different network elements.

Problems Solved

This technology solves the problem of effectively coordinating the transmission and reception of user streams between network elements in a telecommunications network.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include improved network efficiency, optimized data stream transmission, and enhanced communication between network elements.

Potential Commercial Applications

One potential commercial application of this technology is in 5G networks to enhance the performance and reliability of data transmission between network elements.

Possible Prior Art

Prior art in session management functions and network element coordination in telecommunications networks may exist, but specific examples are not provided in this abstract.

Unanswered Questions

== How does this technology impact network latency in data transmission? This article does not address the specific impact of this technology on network latency and whether it improves or hinders data transmission speed.

== What security measures are in place to protect user streams in this system? The abstract does not mention any security features or protocols implemented to safeguard user streams transmitted between network elements.

Original Abstract Submitted

in an embodiment, a session management function (smf) network element obtains first information identifying a data stream, where the first information is used to instruct a transmit end to send a user stream using the data stream and to instruct a receive end to receive the user stream using the data stream; and the receive end is an access network element, and the transmit end is a user plane function network element, or vice versa; the smf network element sends the first information to the user plane function network element and/or the access network element; the smf network element obtains second information, where the second information is used to indicate a forwarding rule of transmitting the user stream by the user plane function network element on a data network side; and the smf network element sends the second information to the user plane function network element.
