IMAGE READING DEVICE AND PRINTING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240137449 titled 'IMAGE READING DEVICE AND PRINTING APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

The image reading device described in the abstract is a device that can read images of a medium placed on a placement portion. It includes a cover unit that can rotate to cover the placement portion and a hinge portion that allows for this movement. The hinge portion has openings for cables to pass through, allowing for the movement of the cover unit.

  • Explanation of the patent/innovation:

- The device is designed to read images from a medium placed on a placement portion. - It includes a cover unit that can rotate to cover the placement portion. - The hinge portion allows for the movement of the cover unit in two directions. - Cables extending from the openings in the hinge portion facilitate the movement of the cover unit.

Potential applications of this technology: - Document scanners - Photocopiers - Image processing devices

Problems solved by this technology: - Efficient image reading from a medium - Protection of the placement portion when not in use

Benefits of this technology: - Improved image reading capabilities - Space-saving design with the rotating cover unit

Potential commercial applications of this technology: - Office equipment - Imaging devices for medical or scientific purposes

Possible prior art: - Similar devices with rotating cover units for image reading

Unanswered questions: 1. How does the device handle different sizes and types of mediums placed on the placement portion? 2. What materials are used in the construction of the device to ensure durability and longevity?

Original Abstract Submitted

an image reading device includes a first image reading unit to read an image of a medium placed on a placement portion, a cover unit, and a hinge portion. the cover unit is rotatable in a first direction from a first position to cover the placement portion toward a second position and in a second direction from the second position toward the first position. the hinge portion has a first opening provided on a placement portion side, a second opening provided on a cover unit side, a first space in which a first cable extending from the first opening toward the second opening is disposed, and a second space that is adjacent to the first space via a partition portion and in which a second cable extending from the first opening toward the second opening is disposed. the first space extends in the first direction near the first opening.
