RECORDING APPARATUS, CONTROL METHOD, AND STORAGE MEDIUM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240109344 titled 'RECORDING APPARATUS, CONTROL METHOD, AND STORAGE MEDIUM

Simplified Explanation

The present invention relates to a recording apparatus with a conveyance path, conveying unit, detecting unit, and control unit for managing the movement of a recording medium based on its edges.

  • Conveyance path for recording medium
  • Conveying unit to move recording medium
  • Detecting unit to identify edges of recording medium
  • Control unit for managing movement of recording medium based on detected edges

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in various industries such as printing, packaging, and labeling where precise control of recording medium movement is required.

Problems Solved

1. Ensures accurate positioning of recording medium during conveyance 2. Prevents jams and misalignments in the recording process

Benefits

1. Improved efficiency in recording processes 2. Reduced errors and waste of recording medium 3. Enhanced quality of recorded output

Potential Commercial Applications

Optical disc manufacturing, printing presses, packaging lines

Possible Prior Art

Similar technologies exist in the printing industry where sensors are used to detect paper edges for precise alignment during printing processes.

Unanswered Questions

1. How does the control unit differentiate between different types of recording media? 2. What is the maximum speed at which the apparatus can accurately detect and control the movement of the recording medium?

Original Abstract Submitted

one embodiment of the present invention provides a recording apparatus including: a conveyance path through which a recording medium is caused to pass from an upstream side to a downstream side in a conveyance direction; a conveying unit disposed on the conveyance path and configured to convey a recording medium; a detecting unit configured to detect an edge of a recording medium in the conveyance path; and a control unit configured to execute first control for conveying a recording medium toward the upstream side with the conveying pit and second control for conveying the recording medium toward the downstream side with the conveying unit. after the detecting unit detects a trailing edge of a recording medium, the control unit executes the first control or the second control based on a position of the trailing edge of the recording medium.
