METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ENCAPSULATING IMAGE DATA IN A FILE FOR PROGRESSIVE RENDERING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240107129 titled 'METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ENCAPSULATING IMAGE DATA IN A FILE FOR PROGRESSIVE RENDERING

Simplified Explanation

The method described in the abstract involves encapsulating image data related to a main image to be generated from a plurality of sub-images in a media file. This includes obtaining the sub-images, generating descriptive metadata for the main image and sub-images, and embedding them in the media file. Additionally, the method involves creating progressive information defining steps for generating versions of the main image and embedding this information in the metadata.

  • Obtaining a plurality of sub-images, each provided in at least one version
  • Generating descriptive metadata for the main image and sub-images
  • Encapsulating the sub-images and metadata in a media file
  • Generating progressive information for creating versions of the main image
  • Embedding the progressive information in the descriptive metadata

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in digital photography, image editing software, and multimedia content creation tools.

Problems Solved

This technology solves the problem of efficiently storing and organizing image data related to a main image composed of multiple sub-images.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include improved organization of image data, enhanced generation of main images from sub-images, and efficient storage of progressive information for image creation.

Potential Commercial Applications

A potential commercial application of this technology could be in the development of advanced image editing software for professionals in the photography and graphic design industries.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art for this technology could be the use of metadata in digital image files to store information about the image content and editing history.

Original Abstract Submitted

a method of encapsulating image data in a media file, the image data being related to a main image to be generated based on a plurality of sub-images, wherein the method comprises: obtaining the plurality of sub-images, each sub-image being provided in at least one version; generating descriptive metadata for describing the main image and the plurality of sub-images; encapsulating the plurality of sub-images and the descriptive metadata in the media file; wherein the method further comprises: generating a progressive information defining a set of consecutive progressive steps for generating a version of the main image, each progressive step being associated with a set of sub-images versions required to generate the version of the main image; and embedding the progressive information in the descriptive metadata.
