FOLDABLE ELECTRONIC DEVICE INCLUDING DISPLAY - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18530093 titled 'FOLDABLE ELECTRONIC DEVICE INCLUDING DISPLAY
Simplified Explanation
The patent application describes an electronic device with a foldable housing, a flexible display, and protective plates to cover and protect the display when the device is folded or unfolded.
- The electronic device includes a foldable housing with a first housing, a second housing, and a connection structure.
- It features a flexible display with protective plates covering the display when the device is folded or unfolded.
- The protective plates, when the device is in an unfolded state, are in contact with the display, and when the device is folded, they are spaced apart from the display, with a protection layer covering the exposed area.
Potential Applications
The technology could be applied in foldable smartphones, tablets, or other electronic devices that require a flexible display and protection when folded.
Problems Solved
This technology solves the problem of protecting a flexible display in a foldable electronic device when transitioning between folded and unfolded states.
Benefits
The benefits of this technology include improved durability and longevity of the flexible display, enhanced user experience, and increased versatility in design for foldable devices.
Potential Commercial Applications
Potential commercial applications include foldable smartphones, tablets, e-readers, and other portable electronic devices with flexible displays.
Possible Prior Art
One possible prior art for this technology could be the foldable smartphones and tablets that have been introduced in the market in recent years, which also feature flexible displays and protective layers.
Unanswered Questions
How does this technology impact the overall thickness of the electronic device?
The abstract does not provide information on how the addition of protective plates and a protection layer affects the overall thickness of the electronic device when folded or unfolded.
What materials are used for the protective plates and the protection layer?
The abstract does not specify the materials used for the protective plates and the protection layer, which could impact the durability and performance of the technology.
Original Abstract Submitted
An electronic device including a foldable housing including a first housing, a second housing, and a connection structure; a flexible display; a first plate including at least a portion disposed on a lower end of a first area of the display and a first periphery; a second plate including at least a portion disposed on a lower end of a second area of the display, and a second periphery; and a protection layer. When the electronic device is in an unfolded state, the first periphery and the second periphery are configured to be in contact with the display. When the electronic device pivots from the unfolded state to a folded state, the first periphery and the second periphery are configured to be spaced apart from the display, and the protection layer is configured to cover an area of the display exposed between the first periphery and the second periphery.
