ELECTRONIC DEVICE COMPRISING DRIVE MOTOR - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18488288 titled 'ELECTRONIC DEVICE COMPRISING DRIVE MOTOR

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes an electronic device with a flexible display that can be expanded or contracted by sliding a second housing. The device includes a drive motor with a pinion gear in the second housing, and a rack gear structure with a rack gear engaged with the pinion gear in the first housing. There is at least one sensor module to detect movement of the second housing, a memory to store executable instructions, and a processor to access the memory and control the drive motor based on the sensor information.

  • The electronic device has a flexible display that can be expanded or contracted by sliding the second housing.
  • A drive motor with a pinion gear and a rack gear structure with a rack gear are used to control the movement of the flexible display.
  • Sensor modules are included to detect the movement of the second housing.
  • The memory stores executable instructions, and the processor accesses the memory to control the drive motor based on the sensor information.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Foldable smartphones or tablets with a flexible display that can be expanded or contracted.
  • Portable electronic devices with adjustable screen size for enhanced user experience.
  • Wearable devices with flexible displays that can adapt to different wrist sizes.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Provides a compact and portable electronic device with a flexible display.
  • Allows for adjustable screen size without the need for multiple physical screens.
  • Enables the creation of innovative form factors for electronic devices.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Enhanced user experience with adjustable screen size.
  • Improved portability and convenience of electronic devices.
  • Enables the development of new and unique designs for electronic devices.

Original Abstract Submitted

An electronic device is provided. The electronic device includes a first housing, a second housing slidably coupled to the first housing, a flexible display configured to be expanded or contracted based on slide-out or slide-in movement of the second housing, a drive motor disposed in the second housing and including a pinion gear, a rack gear structure disposed in the first housing and including a rack gear engaged with the pinion gear, at least one sensor module configured to detect movement of the second housing, a memory configured to store executable instructions, and at least one processor configured to access the memory and execute the instructions, and control the drive motor based on sensing information detected from the at least one sensor module.
