USER EQUIPMENT, AND COMMUNICATION CONTROL METHOD - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18485382 titled 'USER EQUIPMENT, AND COMMUNICATION CONTROL METHOD

Simplified Explanation

The user equipment described in the abstract is equipped with a Radio Resource Control (RRC) processor and a Non-Access Stratum (NAS) processor. The RRC processor handles processing in the RRC layer, while the NAS processor handles processing in a higher layer, the NAS layer. In a scenario where the user equipment is inactive in the RRC layer with respect to the second network while communicating with the first network, the RRC processor receives paging from the second network and notifies the NAS processor about the paging if a transmission-possible notification prioritizing communication with the first network is provided by the NAS processor.

  • User equipment with RRC and NAS processors
  • RRC processor handles processing in RRC layer, NAS processor in higher NAS layer
  • RRC processor receives paging from second network when inactive with respect to it
  • Notifies NAS processor if transmission-possible notification prioritizing first network communication is provided

Potential Applications

The technology described in the patent application could be applied in:

  • Mobile communication systems
  • Wireless networks
  • IoT devices

Problems Solved

This technology helps in:

  • Efficiently managing communication priorities between networks
  • Ensuring seamless communication handover between networks

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include:

  • Improved network efficiency
  • Enhanced user experience with uninterrupted communication
  • Optimal resource allocation for network communication

Potential Commercial Applications

Optimizing Network Communication Priorities for Enhanced User Experience

Unanswered Questions

How does the technology handle handover between networks?

The abstract does not provide details on how the technology manages the handover process between networks.

What are the specific types of processing performed by the RRC and NAS processors?

The abstract mentions processing in the RRC and NAS layers but does not specify the exact nature of this processing.

Original Abstract Submitted

A user equipment comprises: a radio resource control (RRC) processor configured to perform processing in an RRC layer; and a non-access stratum (NAS) processor configured to perform processing in a NAS layer which is a layer higher than the RRC layer. In a case where the user equipment is in an RRC inactive state with respect to the second network during the communication with the first network, the RRC processor is configured to execute processing of receiving paging addressed to the user equipment from the second network, and notifying the NAS processor that the paging has been received in a case where a transmission-possible notification indicating that information indicating that the communication with the first network is prioritized over the communication with the second network is transmittable is provided from the NAS processor.
