ELECTRONIC DEVICE COMPRISING IMAGING OPTICAL SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18484825 titled 'ELECTRONIC DEVICE COMPRISING IMAGING OPTICAL SYSTEM

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes an electronic device that includes two imaging optical systems, each with its own image sensor. The optical systems consist of a reflective member, three lens groups, and the image sensors. The second and third lens groups can slide with respect to the first lens group. The device is designed to satisfy a conditional expression that ensures the size of the first image sensor is greater than twice the size of the second image sensor.

  • The electronic device has two imaging optical systems with separate image sensors.
  • The optical systems consist of a reflective member, three lens groups, and the image sensors.
  • The second and third lens groups can slide relative to the first lens group.
  • The size of the first image sensor must be greater than twice the size of the second image sensor.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Dual-camera smartphones or tablets with improved imaging capabilities.
  • Surveillance systems with enhanced image capturing and analysis.
  • Medical imaging devices for capturing detailed images from different perspectives.
  • Virtual reality or augmented reality devices with improved depth perception.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Enables the capture of high-quality images from different angles or distances.
  • Provides flexibility in adjusting the focus or zoom of the optical systems.
  • Enhances the overall image quality and resolution.
  • Allows for better depth perception and 3D imaging.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved image quality and resolution in electronic devices.
  • Enhanced depth perception and 3D imaging capabilities.
  • Greater flexibility in adjusting focus and zoom.
  • Enables the development of more advanced imaging applications.

Original Abstract Submitted

An electronic device is provided. The electronic device includes a first imaging optical system including a first image sensor, and a second imaging optical system including a second image sensor, a reflective member, a first lens group, a second lens group, and a third lens group, the first, second, and third lens groups being sequentially arranged from the reflective member to the second image sensor, the second and third lens groups being configured to slide with respect to the first lens group, and the first and second imaging optical systems being configured to satisfy a conditional expression SSW/SST>2, where SSW denotes a size of the first image sensor and SST denotes a size of the second image sensor.
