USER INTERFACES FOR SURFACING WEB BROWSER HISTORY DATA - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18482565 titled 'USER INTERFACES FOR SURFACING WEB BROWSER HISTORY DATA

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a system and method for generating a repository of metadata based on webpages accessed and saved in a browser history. This metadata is used to generate a history cluster, which includes a portion of webpages related to a specific topic. The generation of the history cluster is based on the source events and access timestamps of the webpages in the portion. The webpages in the history cluster are assigned respective scores.

When a request is made to view browser activity associated with the topic, the system generates and displays a history cluster listing. This listing includes visit listings associated with the webpages in the history cluster that have a score meeting a threshold score.

  • The system generates metadata based on webpages accessed and saved in a browser history.
  • The metadata is used to generate a history cluster of webpages related to a specific topic.
  • The generation of the history cluster is based on source events and access timestamps of the webpages.
  • Webpages in the history cluster are assigned scores.
  • A history cluster listing is generated and displayed in response to a request to view browser activity associated with the topic.
  • The history cluster listing includes visit listings of webpages in the history cluster that meet a threshold score.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Personalized web browsing experience: The system can generate history clusters based on user interests, allowing for a more personalized browsing experience.
  • Content recommendation: The generated history clusters can be used to recommend relevant content to users based on their browsing history.
  • Research and analysis: The system can assist researchers and analysts in organizing and analyzing webpages related to specific topics.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Information overload: The system helps users manage and organize their browsing history by generating history clusters based on specific topics of interest.
  • Relevant content discovery: By generating history clusters and assigning scores to webpages, the system helps users discover relevant content related to their interests.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved browsing efficiency: Users can quickly access and view webpages related to specific topics through the generated history cluster listings.
  • Personalized recommendations: The system can provide personalized content recommendations based on the user's browsing history and the generated history clusters.
  • Enhanced research capabilities: Researchers and analysts can efficiently organize and analyze webpages related to specific topics using the generated history clusters.

Original Abstract Submitted

Systems and methods are described that include generating a repository of metadata based on a plurality of webpages accessed and saved in a browser history of a web browser executing on a computing device, generating, based on the metadata, a history cluster including a portion of the plurality of webpages related to a topic where the history cluster generation is based on the source events and the access timestamps of the webpages in the portion, and assigning respective scores for the webpages in the portion. In response to a request to view browser activity associated with the topic, the systems and method may generate and display a history cluster listing for the topic where the history cluster listing includes visit listings associated with the webpages in the history cluster that are determined to have a score that meets a threshold score.
