CYLINDRICAL SECONDARY BATTERY - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18447080 titled 'CYLINDRICAL SECONDARY BATTERY

Simplified Explanation

The cylindrical secondary battery described in the abstract includes an electrode assembly, a case, a terminal, and a cap plate with a vent. The vent on the cap plate has a ring-shaped central notch and a line-shaped inner peripheral notch.

  • Electrode assembly with first electrode plate, separator, and second electrode plate
  • Case housing the electrode assembly and electrically connected to the second electrode plate
  • Terminal passing through the case and electrically connected to the first electrode plate
  • Cap plate sealing the upper end of the case with a vent featuring a central and inner peripheral notch

Potential Applications

The technology can be applied in various electronic devices such as smartphones, laptops, and electric vehicles.

Problems Solved

This innovation helps in improving the safety and efficiency of cylindrical secondary batteries by providing a unique vent design for pressure release.

Benefits

- Enhanced safety features - Improved battery performance - Better thermal management

Potential Commercial Applications

"Enhanced Safety Features in Cylindrical Secondary Batteries"

Possible Prior Art

There may be prior art related to vent designs in cylindrical batteries, but specific examples are not provided in the abstract.

Unanswered Questions

How does the vent design impact the overall performance of the battery?

The vent design plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of the cylindrical secondary battery. By allowing for pressure release in a controlled manner, it helps prevent potential hazards such as overheating or explosion.

Are there any specific regulations or standards that this vent design needs to meet for commercial use?

To ensure the widespread adoption of this technology, it is essential to comply with industry standards and regulations regarding battery safety and performance. Manufacturers may need to conduct thorough testing and certification processes to meet these requirements.

Original Abstract Submitted

A cylindrical secondary battery includes: an electrode assembly including a first electrode plate, a separator, and a second electrode plate; a case accommodating the electrode assembly and electrically connected to the second electrode plate; a terminal passing through a lower surface of the case and electrically connected to the first electrode plate; and a cap plate sealing an upper end portion of the case and having a vent. The vent is a thinner portion of the cap plate than other regions thereof and has a central notch having a ring shape and being at a central portion of the cap plate and an inner peripheral notch having a line shape extending from the central notch toward an edge of the cap plate.
