METHOD FOR GENERATING A RULES PACKAGE DESCRIBING THE CURRENT TRAFFIC SITUATION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE, FROM TRAFFIC RULES BASED ON TRAFFIC SIGN RECOGNITION - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18446704 titled 'METHOD FOR GENERATING A RULES PACKAGE DESCRIBING THE CURRENT TRAFFIC SITUATION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE, FROM TRAFFIC RULES BASED ON TRAFFIC SIGN RECOGNITION
Simplified Explanation
The patent application describes a method for generating a rules package that describes the current traffic situation of a motor vehicle using a traffic sign recognition unit and multiple sensors.
- Traffic sign recognition unit monitors the area in front of the motor vehicle and generates video data.
- Recognized traffic signs are encoded and transmitted as first sensor data to an evaluation unit.
- Evaluation unit requests second sensor data from at least one further sensor based on the first sensor data.
- Second sensor data is encoded and transmitted to the evaluation unit for comparison with the first sensor data and traffic rules stored in a database.
- Selected traffic rules are used to create a rules package containing the selected rules.
Potential applications of this technology:
- Autonomous vehicles
- Advanced driver assistance systems
- Traffic management systems
Problems solved by this technology:
- Improving road safety by ensuring compliance with traffic rules
- Enhancing the efficiency of traffic flow
- Providing real-time information on the current traffic situation
Benefits of this technology:
- Increased safety for drivers and pedestrians
- Reduced traffic congestion
- Enhanced decision-making for autonomous vehicles
Original Abstract Submitted
A method for generating a rules package describing the current traffic situation of a motor vehicle. A traffic sign recognition unit monitors the area in front of the motor vehicle, and is used to generate video data. Traffic signs are recognized and an encoder/decoder unit generates first sensor data and transmits them to an evaluation unit, which encodes the recognized traffic sign. As a function of the first sensor data, the evaluation unit requests second sensor data, which characterize the current traffic situation, from at least one further sensor. In response, the encoder/decoder unit encodes these second sensor data, transmits them to the evaluation unit and the latter compares them along with the first sensor data to traffic rules stored in a database. Individual traffic rules are selected and from the selected rules. a rules package is created which contains the selected traffic rules.
