MOBILE VPN AUTOSTART THROUGH APP-ONLY MANAGEMENT - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18403164 titled 'MOBILE VPN AUTOSTART THROUGH APP-ONLY MANAGEMENT

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes techniques for auto-starting a VPN in a Mobile Application Management (MAM) environment. Here is a simplified explanation of the abstract:

  • A MAM-controlled application is launched on a computer system.
  • Policy is queried to determine whether to auto-start a VPN application based on the policy.
  • The VPN application is auto-started based on the policy, and it initiates a VPN tunnel usable by at least the MAM-controlled application.
  • Network communications transmitted to or from the MAM-controlled application pass through the VPN tunnel.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in enterprise environments where secure communication is essential, such as in corporate networks or remote work settings.

Problems Solved

This technology solves the problem of ensuring secure network communication for MAM-controlled applications without manual intervention.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include enhanced security for network communications, seamless integration with MAM environments, and improved user experience.

Potential Commercial Applications

A potential commercial application of this technology could be in the development of secure enterprise software solutions for businesses that prioritize data security.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be the use of VPN auto-start features in traditional network environments, but the specific application in a MAM-controlled environment may be novel.

Unanswered Questions

How does this technology impact network performance?

This article does not delve into the potential impact on network performance that auto-starting a VPN in a MAM environment may have. It would be interesting to explore whether there are any performance trade-offs associated with this technology.

Are there any compatibility issues with existing VPN solutions?

The article does not address whether there are any compatibility issues with existing VPN solutions when implementing auto-start features in a MAM environment. It would be important to investigate whether this technology can seamlessly integrate with various VPN providers and configurations.

Original Abstract Submitted

Techniques for auto-starting a VPN in a MAM environment are disclosed. A MAM-controlled application is launched on a computer system. Policy is queried and a determination is made as to whether to auto-start a VPN application based on the policy. Based on the policy, the VPN application is auto-started, and the VPN application initiates a VPN tunnel that is usable by at least the MAM-controlled application. Network communications transmitted to or from the MAM-controlled application then pass through the VPN tunnel.
