METHOD AND SYSTEM OF VIDEO CODING WITH HANDLING OF ILLEGAL BLOCK PARTITIONS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18399169 titled 'METHOD AND SYSTEM OF VIDEO CODING WITH HANDLING OF ILLEGAL BLOCK PARTITIONS

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for video coding that involves detecting and handling illegal block partitions in compressed image data of video frames.

  • Receiving compressed image data of video frames, including a block of image data.
  • Receiving first partition data for decoding the compressed image data and indicating a partition in the block.
  • Detecting whether the block has an illegal block partition.
  • Generating second partition data to indicate the illegal block partition is to be ignored.
  • Decoding the block according to the second partition data.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in video streaming services, video conferencing systems, and video surveillance systems.

Problems Solved

This technology helps in efficiently handling illegal block partitions in compressed image data, ensuring accurate decoding of video frames.

Benefits

The method improves the quality of video decoding by addressing illegal block partitions, leading to better video compression and transmission.

Potential Commercial Applications

"Enhancing Video Coding Efficiency through Illegal Block Partition Detection and Handling"

Possible Prior Art

There may be prior art related to video coding techniques for handling errors in compressed image data, but specific examples are not provided in the abstract.

Unanswered Questions

How does this method impact the overall efficiency of video coding processes?

The method improves efficiency by accurately handling illegal block partitions, but the extent of this impact on overall efficiency is not detailed in the abstract.

Are there any limitations to the detection and handling of illegal block partitions using this method?

The abstract does not mention any potential limitations or challenges associated with the detection and handling of illegal block partitions in compressed image data.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods, systems, and articles are described herein related to video coding. The method comprises receiving compressed image data of video frames including a block of image data of at least one of the frames. The method also comprises receiving first partition data to be used to decode the compressed image data and indicating a partition in the block. This method comprises detecting whether or not the block has an illegal block partition. Also, the method comprises generating second partition data to indicate the illegal block partition of the block is to be ignored. Further, the method includes decoding the block at least according to the second partition data.
