Apparatus, Method, and Computer Program - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18376478 titled 'Apparatus, Method, and Computer Program

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes an apparatus with a processor and memory that can obtain user equipment information to determine if repetitions of a reference signal are needed for beam management with a target base station.

  • The apparatus includes at least one processor and memory with computer code for programs.
  • The processor and memory work together to obtain user equipment information.
  • The user equipment information indicates if repetitions of a reference signal are needed for beam management.
  • The apparatus can send the user equipment information to the target base station.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in the field of telecommunications for optimizing beam management procedures between user equipment and base stations.

Problems Solved

This technology helps in improving the efficiency of beam management procedures by determining the need for repetitions of reference signals, leading to better alignment between transmitting and receiving beams.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include enhanced performance of beam management procedures, increased reliability in signal transmission, and improved overall communication quality for user equipment.

Potential Commercial Applications

A potential commercial application of this technology could be in the development of advanced telecommunications systems for 5G networks, where efficient beam management is crucial for optimal network performance.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be related to beamforming techniques in wireless communication systems, where similar concepts of beam alignment and signal optimization have been explored in the past.

Unanswered Questions

How does this technology impact the overall network capacity and throughput?

This article does not delve into the specific effects of this technology on network capacity and throughput. Further research and testing would be needed to determine the extent of these impacts.

What are the potential challenges in implementing this technology on a large scale in real-world networks?

The article does not address the challenges that may arise when implementing this technology on a large scale in real-world networks. Factors such as compatibility with existing infrastructure, cost implications, and scalability issues would need to be considered.

Original Abstract Submitted

The disclosure relates to an apparatus comprising including at least one processor and at least one memory including computer code for one or more programs, the at least one memory and the computer code configured, with the at least one processor, to cause the apparatus at least to: obtain user equipment information indicating whether a user equipment served by the apparatus would need repetitions of a reference signal transmitted by a target base station to successfully select a receiving beam aligned with a transmitting beam in a beam management procedure with the target base station; and send, to the target base station, the user equipment information.
