DISPLAY DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18374547 titled 'DISPLAY DEVICE

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a display device with a fingerprint sensing area integrated into the image display area. The device includes light-sensing pixels with photo-detecting units for fingerprint scanning, controlled by sense driving units and a fingerprint scan driver.

  • Display device with integrated fingerprint sensing area
  • Light-sensing pixels with photo-detecting units for fingerprint scanning
  • Sense driving units and fingerprint scan driver for control

Potential Applications

The technology can be used in smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other electronic devices requiring secure biometric authentication.

Problems Solved

The device eliminates the need for a separate fingerprint sensor, reducing the overall size and complexity of the device while providing secure biometric authentication.

Benefits

Enhanced security with integrated fingerprint sensing Simplified design and reduced device size Improved user experience with seamless biometric authentication

Potential Commercial Applications

"Integrated Fingerprint Sensing Display Technology for Enhanced Security and User Experience"

Possible Prior Art

Prior art may include separate fingerprint sensors or devices with integrated fingerprint sensors, but the specific integration of a fingerprint sensing area within the image display area may be novel.

Unanswered Questions

1. How does the integration of the fingerprint sensing area affect the overall display quality and performance of the device? 2. What additional security measures are in place to protect the biometric data collected by the integrated fingerprint sensor?

Original Abstract Submitted

A display device comprises a display panel comprising an image display area and a non-display area, display pixels comprising light-emitting elements in the image display area and pixel driving units connected to the light-emitting elements, light-sensing pixels comprising photo-detecting units in a fingerprint sensing area in the image display area, and sense driving units connected to the photo-detecting units, a light-sensing reset driver configured to supply reset signals to the sense driving units of the light-sensing pixels for at least each horizontal line among the light-sensing pixels in response to a line select signal from a display driving circuit; and a fingerprint scan driver configured to sequentially supply a fingerprint scan signal to the sense driving units of the light-sensing pixels in response to a fingerprint scan control signal from the display driving circuit.
