ELECTRONIC DEVICE AND METHOD OF CONTROLLING TEXT-TO-SPEECH (TTS) RATE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18372898 titled 'ELECTRONIC DEVICE AND METHOD OF CONTROLLING TEXT-TO-SPEECH (TTS) RATE

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes an electronic device and method for controlling a text-to-speech (TTS) rate based on the speaking rate of a user's voice signal.

  • Electronic device includes a processor and memory for storing instructions.
  • Processor receives voice signal, calculates speaking rate, and generates output text.
  • TTS rate of output text is determined based on speaking rate.
  • Output text is converted into voice data at the determined TTS rate for user output.

Potential Applications

  • Assistive technology for individuals with visual impairments.
  • Language learning tools for pronunciation practice.
  • Accessibility features for digital content consumption.

Problems Solved

  • Adjusting TTS rate based on user's speaking rate for natural and effective communication.
  • Enhancing user experience by providing personalized TTS output.

Benefits

  • Improved accessibility for individuals with disabilities.
  • Enhanced user engagement and comprehension.
  • Customizable TTS experience for different users and scenarios.

Original Abstract Submitted

Disclosed are an electronic device and a method of controlling a text-to-speech (TTS) rate. An electronic device may include a processor, and a memory configured to store instructions to be executed by the processor. The processor may receive a voice signal of a user. The processor may calculate a speaking rate of the voice signal based on the voice signal. The processor may generate an output text to be output to the user based on the voice signal. The processor may determine a TTS rate of the output text based on the speaking rate. The processor may convert the output text into voice data based on the TTS rate and output the voice data.
