METHOD AND DEVICE FOR SYNCHRONIZATION FOR SL POSITIONING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18298788 titled 'METHOD AND DEVICE FOR SYNCHRONIZATION FOR SL POSITIONING

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a method for operating a first device in a wireless communication system. Here is a simplified explanation of the abstract:

  • The method involves obtaining information about a specific resource called SL PRS.
  • The first device receives a first PRS (Primary Reference Signal) at a specific time point, based on the SL PRS resource.
  • The first device also receives a second PRS at another time point, based on the same SL PRS resource.
  • The first device receives information about the distance between a second device and a third device.
  • The first device obtains a value called RSTD (Reference Signal Time Difference) between the second device and the third device.
  • The first device performs positioning based on the obtained RSTD value.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Wireless communication systems that require accurate positioning of devices.
  • Location-based services that rely on precise positioning information.
  • Internet of Things (IoT) devices that need to determine their location in a wireless network.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Accurate positioning of devices in a wireless communication system.
  • Overcoming limitations of traditional positioning methods that may not provide sufficient accuracy.
  • Enabling location-based services and applications that require precise positioning information.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved accuracy in determining the position of devices.
  • Enhanced performance of location-based services and applications.
  • Increased efficiency in wireless communication systems that rely on accurate positioning.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method of operating a first device in a wireless communication system is proposed. The method may comprise: obtaining information related to an SL PRS resource; receiving a first PRS at a first time point, based on the SL PRS resource; receiving a second PRS at a second time point, based on the SL PRS resource; receiving, a first distance value between the second device and the third device ; obtaining a first RSTD value between the second device and the third device ; and performing the positioning based on the first RSTD value.
