Device And Method For Inspecting Welded State - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18283254 titled 'Device And Method For Inspecting Welded State

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a device for inspecting the welded state between a tab and a lead in a battery cell assembly.

  • The device includes tab probes and lead probes that are in contact with the tab and lead, respectively, to assess the quality of the weld.
  • The tab probes and lead probes are spaced apart from each other in the width direction of the tab and lead, allowing for accurate inspection.
  • The device helps ensure the integrity of the weld between the tab and lead in battery cell assemblies.

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in the manufacturing of battery cells for electric vehicles, consumer electronics, and energy storage systems.

Problems Solved

This technology helps in detecting any defects or inconsistencies in the weld between the tab and lead, ensuring the overall quality and reliability of the battery cell assembly.

Benefits

- Improved quality control in battery cell manufacturing - Enhanced safety and reliability of battery packs - Cost-effective solution for inspecting welds in high-volume production environments

Potential Commercial Applications

"Enhancing Battery Weld Inspection Technology for Improved Quality Control"

Possible Prior Art

There are existing devices and methods for inspecting welds in various industries, but specific prior art related to inspecting the weld between a tab and a lead in battery cell assemblies may need further research.

Unanswered Questions

How does the device handle variations in tab and lead sizes in different battery cell assemblies?

The device may need to be adjustable or have interchangeable probes to accommodate different tab and lead dimensions.

Can the device detect micro-fractures or other subtle defects in the weld?

Further testing and validation may be required to determine the device's sensitivity to detect minor defects in the weld.

Original Abstract Submitted

A device for inspecting a welded state between a tab, which protrudes from a plurality of electrodes stacked with a separator therebetween, and a lead welded to the tab. The device for inspecting a welded state may include a pair of tab probes, which are in contact with the tab and spaced apart from each other in a width direction of the tab, and a pair of lead probes which are in contact with the lead and spaced apart from each other in a width direction of the lead. Related methods for inspecting the welded state between a tab and a lead thereby are provided.
