ACCESS AND MOBILITY POLICY CONTROL - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18277248 titled 'ACCESS AND MOBILITY POLICY CONTROL

Simplified Explanation

The method described in the abstract involves controlling access and mobility policies in a communications network by receiving policy data for a user equipment, obtaining PDU session information, and modifying policies based on the session information.

  • Receiving notification with access and mobility policy data for a user equipment
  • Obtaining PDU session information for the user equipment
  • Modifying access and mobility policies based on the obtained session information

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in telecommunications networks to efficiently manage access and mobility policies for user equipment, ensuring optimal network performance and user experience.

Problems Solved

This method helps in dynamically adjusting access and mobility policies based on real-time PDU session information, allowing for more effective network resource allocation and traffic management.

Benefits

- Improved network performance - Enhanced user experience - Efficient resource allocation

Potential Commercial Applications

This technology could be utilized by telecommunications companies to optimize network operations, enhance user satisfaction, and streamline policy control processes.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be the use of policy control entities in telecommunications networks to manage access and mobility policies for user equipment. This method builds upon existing technologies by incorporating real-time PDU session information for dynamic policy adjustments.

Unanswered Questions

How does this method impact network scalability?

This article does not address how the scalability of the network is affected by the implementation of this method.

What are the potential security implications of modifying policies based on PDU session information?

The article does not delve into the security aspects of modifying policies based on PDU session information and how it could impact the overall network security.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method for access and mobility policy control in a communications network, the method comprising receiving at a first policy control entity for handling UE policies from a network node a notification including access and mobility policy data for a user equipment, the notification further including an application identifier or a packet flow descriptor to which the access and mobility policy data applies; obtaining at the first policy control entity PDU session information for the user equipment relative to the application identifier or the packet flow descriptor, particularly wherein the PDU session information is at least one of an application start/stop event, an out of credit event, a reallocation of credit event or a usage report; and modifying at least one access and mobility policy at the first policy control entity based on the obtained PDU session information. The network node may be a user data repository.
