POWER BACKOFF TECHNIQUES FOR MODULATION SCHEMES - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18264053 titled 'POWER BACKOFF TECHNIQUES FOR MODULATION SCHEMES

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes methods, systems, and devices for power backoff techniques for modulation schemes. Here is a simplified explanation of the abstract:

  • User equipment (UE) receives information about constellation distribution and modulation scheme for an uplink message.
  • Based on this information, the UE determines the transmission power for the uplink message.
  • The UE then transmits the message using the indicated modulation scheme and determined power.
  • Additionally, the UE may send a report with power headroom and output power parameters based on the constellation distribution.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in wireless communication systems, such as 5G networks, to optimize power usage and improve signal quality for uplink transmissions.

Problems Solved

1. Efficient power management for uplink transmissions. 2. Enhanced performance and reliability of wireless communication systems.

Benefits

1. Improved signal quality and reliability. 2. Optimal power usage for uplink transmissions. 3. Enhanced overall performance of wireless networks.

Potential Commercial Applications

Optimizing power backoff techniques for modulation schemes could be valuable in industries such as telecommunications, IoT, and smart devices.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be the use of adaptive modulation and coding techniques in wireless communication systems to optimize transmission performance based on channel conditions.

What are the specific modulation schemes mentioned in the patent application and how do they impact power backoff techniques?

The patent application does not specify the modulation schemes mentioned, but it highlights the importance of adjusting transmission power based on the indicated modulation scheme to optimize performance.

How does the power headroom parameter help in determining the transmission power for uplink messages?

The power headroom parameter provides information about the available power margin for the UE to adjust its transmission power accordingly, ensuring efficient power usage and maintaining signal quality.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods, systems, and devices for power backoff techniques for modulation schemes are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive an indication of a constellation distribution parameter and a modulation scheme to be used by the UE for an uplink message on an uplink channel. The UE may determine an uplink transmission power based at least in part on the indicated constellation distribution parameter and the indicated modulation scheme. The UE may transmit the uplink message using the indicated modulation scheme according to the determined uplink transmission power. In some examples, the UE may transmit a report indicating a power headroom parameter and an output power parameter based at least in part on the constellation distribution parameter.
