MANAGEMENT OF RADIO LINK FAILURE AND DEFICIENCIES IN INTEGRATED ACCESS BACKHAULED NETWORKS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18260533 titled 'MANAGEMENT OF RADIO LINK FAILURE AND DEFICIENCIES IN INTEGRATED ACCESS BACKHAULED NETWORKS

Simplified Explanation

- An IAB network detects a deficiency or failure of a BH link. - A BH RLF indication message is sent to IAB-nodes specifying impacted BAP paths, quality of paths, and the deficient radio link. - Message is transmitted to sharing IAB-node and IAB-donor to adapt routing configuration. - Impacted BAP paths are rerouted using alternative paths. - IAB-nodes apply routing strategies for impacted BAP paths based on indicated quality. - Similar message is sent when BH radio link experiences recovery to stop rerouting and restore original routing configuration.

Potential Applications

- Wireless communication networks - Internet of Things (IoT) devices - Smart city infrastructure

Problems Solved

- Efficient routing in case of link failures - Improved network reliability - Quick recovery from link deficiencies

Benefits

- Enhanced network performance - Minimized downtime - Optimal routing configuration adaptation

Original Abstract Submitted

In an IAB network, an IAB-node detects a deficiency or failure of one BH link. A BH RLF indication message is sent to its child IAB-nodes specifying the BAP paths that are impacted, a quality of those paths and the deficient radio link by indicating the other IAB-node sharing the link. Same message are transmitted to this sharing IAB-node, but also to the IAB-donor in order to adapt the routing configuration of the IAB-nodes to the topology. BAP packets for the impacted BAP paths are rerouted using alternative BAP paths. IAB-nodes receiving the BH RLF indication message also apply routing strategies for the impacted BAP paths, taking into account the indicated quality. A similar message is transmitted when the BH radio link experiences recovery, so that the IAB-nodes stop rerouting the BAP packets and the IAB-donor restore the original routing configuration.
