IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS AND IMAGE PROCESSING APPARATUS FOR DECIDING AMOUNT OF REDUCTION OF EXPOSURE AMOUNT INDICATED BY IMAGE DATA - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18237178 titled 'IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS AND IMAGE PROCESSING APPARATUS FOR DECIDING AMOUNT OF REDUCTION OF EXPOSURE AMOUNT INDICATED BY IMAGE DATA

Simplified Explanation

- An image forming apparatus is designed to adjust exposure levels for different regions of an image. - The apparatus determines specific regions within the image based on distance from a first edge. - For each pixel in the identified regions, the apparatus decides on the amount of exposure reduction needed. - Pixels in the first region receive a larger reduction in exposure compared to pixels in the second region.

Potential Applications

This technology could be used in: - Digital cameras - Photocopiers - Printers

Problems Solved

- Ensures consistent exposure levels across different regions of an image - Helps in improving image quality and clarity

Benefits

- Enhanced image quality - Precise exposure adjustments - Consistent results across different regions of an image

Original Abstract Submitted

According to an aspect of the present invention, an image forming apparatus includes: a unit configured to determine a first region, which is within a range from where a distance from a first edge of an image is a first value to a second value, and a second region, which is within a range from where a distance from the first edge is the second value to a third value; and a decision unit configured to, for each of a plurality of first pixels included in the first region and a plurality of second pixels included in the second region, decide an amount of reduction from an exposure amount, wherein the decision unit makes the amount of reduction of each of the plurality of first pixels larger than the amount of reduction of each of the plurality of second pixels.
