CLOTHES TREATING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18209870 titled 'CLOTHES TREATING APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a clothes treating apparatus that includes a cabinet, a tub positioned inside the cabinet, a drum that rotates inside the tub, and a damper that reduces vibrations of the tub based on the rotation of the drum. The damper consists of a piston, a cylinder with an inside space for the piston to move, a yoke and a bobbin positioned on one side of the yoke, and a friction member positioned between the outer surface of the piston and the inner surface of the cylinder. The friction member contains a magneto-rheological fluid that changes viscosity with a magnetic field. The thickness of the friction member between the piston and the bobbin is smaller than the thickness between the piston and the yoke.

  • The clothes treating apparatus includes a cabinet, tub, drum, and damper.
  • The damper reduces vibrations of the tub based on the rotation of the drum.
  • The damper consists of a piston, cylinder, yoke, bobbin, and friction member.
  • The friction member contains a magneto-rheological fluid that changes viscosity with a magnetic field.
  • The thickness of the friction member is different between the piston and the bobbin compared to the piston and the yoke.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Household washing machines and dryers
  • Industrial laundry equipment
  • Commercial clothes treating facilities

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Reduces vibrations and noise during the operation of clothes treating apparatus
  • Improves the stability and performance of the apparatus

Benefits of this technology:

  • Enhanced user experience with reduced noise and vibrations
  • Increased efficiency and effectiveness of clothes treating processes
  • Longer lifespan of the clothes treating apparatus due to improved stability and reduced wear and tear.

Original Abstract Submitted

A clothes treating apparatus includes: a cabinet; a tub positioned inside the cabinet; a drum configured to rotate inside the tub; and a damper coupled to the cabinet and the tub and configured to reduce vibrations of the tub according to a rotation of the drum. The damper includes: a piston; a cylinder forming an inside space in which the piston is movable, the cylinder including a yoke and a bobbin positioned at one side of the yoke; and a friction member positioned between an outer surface of the piston and an inner surface of the cylinder and including a magneto-rheological fluid of which viscosity changes according to a magnetic field. A thickness of the friction member positioned between the piston and the bobbin is smaller than a thickness of the friction member positioned between the piston and the yoke.
