Control-Deck Graphical User Interface In XR - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18203882 titled 'Control-Deck Graphical User Interface In XR

Simplified Explanation

The abstract of this patent application describes a method for presenting a persistent GUI element in an XR (Extended Reality) environment. The GUI element includes a control deck with interactive elements associated with specific functions. The method involves locking the control deck to the user in a first control-deck mode, ensuring that it remains in the same relative position to the user regardless of their movements in the XR environment.

  • The patent application describes a method for presenting a persistent GUI element in an XR environment.
  • The GUI element includes a control deck with interactive elements associated with specific functions.
  • The method involves locking the control deck to the user in a first control-deck mode.
  • The control deck remains in the same relative position to the user regardless of their movements in the XR environment.

Potential Applications:

  • This technology can be applied in various XR applications such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) systems.
  • It can be used in gaming environments to provide users with a persistent control deck for easy access to different functions or actions.
  • In industrial settings, this technology can be utilized to present a persistent control deck for controlling machinery or equipment in XR simulations.

Problems Solved:

  • The method solves the problem of the control deck's position changing relative to the user's movements in an XR environment.
  • It ensures that the control deck remains in a fixed position, allowing users to interact with the GUI elements without having to search for them.

Benefits:

  • Users can easily access and interact with the control deck's interactive elements without having to constantly search for them in the XR environment.
  • The fixed position of the control deck provides a consistent and intuitive user experience.
  • This technology enhances user efficiency and productivity in XR applications by providing a persistent and easily accessible control interface.

Original Abstract Submitted

In one embodiment, a method includes presenting, to a user in an XR environment, a persistent GUI element that includes a control deck. The control deck includes one or more first interactive elements, each first interactive element associated with a particular function. The method further includes locking, in a first control-deck mode, the control deck to the user such that the control deck appears at the same relative position to the user regardless of the user's movements in the XR environment.
