OPERATION MODE INDICATION METHOD, APPARATUS, AND SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18155881 titled 'OPERATION MODE INDICATION METHOD, APPARATUS, AND SYSTEM

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method and apparatus for indicating the operation mode of a terminal device with multiple antennas. This solves the problem of increased power consumption and resource waste when a terminal device operates in a multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) mode by default in a single-port transmission mode.

  • The network device sends indication information to the terminal device to specify whether the multi-antenna operation mode should be single-user multiple-input multiple-output (SU-MIMO) or MU-MIMO.
  • The terminal device uses the indication information to determine if a demodulation reference signal (DMRS) port number allocated to it is also allocated to another terminal device.
  • Based on this determination, the terminal device adjusts its multi-antenna operation mode accordingly.

Potential Applications

  • Wireless communication systems
  • Mobile devices with multiple antennas
  • Network infrastructure equipment

Problems Solved

  • Increased power consumption in multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) mode
  • Resource waste in single-port transmission mode

Benefits

  • Reduced power consumption
  • Efficient utilization of resources
  • Improved overall performance of wireless communication systems

Original Abstract Submitted

A multi-antenna operation mode indication method and an apparatus resolve a problem that increased power consumption and a resource waste are caused because a terminal device still operates in a multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) mode by default in a single-port transmission mode. The method includes: a network device sends indication information to a terminal device, to indicate that a multi-antenna operation mode of the terminal device is single-user multiple-input multiple-output (SU-MIMO) or MU-MIMO. The terminal device determines, based on the indication information from the network device, whether a demodulation reference signal (DMRS) port number corresponding to the terminal device and a DMRS port number not corresponding to the terminal device are allocated to another terminal device, to adjust the multi-antenna operation mode.
