SIDELINK UNICAST CONNECTION STATES - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18153969 titled 'SIDELINK UNICAST CONNECTION STATES

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a configuration that allows a User Equipment (UE) to monitor the connection state with another UE in a sidelink communication. The apparatus establishes one or more unicast links with the second UE and changes the connection state from disconnected to connected when the first unicast link is established. The connection state is changed back to disconnected when all unicast links are released or when a timer expires.

  • The configuration enables a UE to monitor the connection state with another UE in sidelink communication.
  • The apparatus establishes one or more unicast links with the second UE.
  • The connection state is changed from disconnected to connected when the first unicast link is established.
  • The connection state is changed back to disconnected when all unicast links are released or when a timer expires.

Potential Applications

  • This technology can be applied in cellular networks to enable UEs to monitor the connection state with other UEs in sidelink communication.
  • It can be used in vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) or vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications to ensure reliable and efficient communication between vehicles or between vehicles and infrastructure.

Problems Solved

  • The configuration solves the problem of monitoring the connection state between UEs in sidelink communication.
  • It addresses the challenge of establishing and maintaining reliable communication links between UEs in a sidelink scenario.

Benefits

  • The configuration provides a mechanism for UEs to monitor the connection state with other UEs, ensuring efficient communication.
  • It allows for seamless transition between connected and disconnected states based on the establishment or release of unicast links.
  • The use of a timer ensures that the connection state is changed back to disconnected if the links are not released within a specified time, preventing unnecessary resource allocation.

Original Abstract Submitted

A configuration to enable a UE to monitor the state of the connection with a peer UE in a sidelink communication. The apparatus establishes one or more unicast links with a second UE. The apparatus changes a connection state with the second UE from a sidelink disconnected state to a sidelink connected state based on an establishment of a first of the one or more unicast links. The apparatus changes the connection state with the second UE from the sidelink connected state to the sidelink disconnected state when each of the one or more unicast links with the second UE is released or when a configured timer expires.
