METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SUPPORTING DATA SYNCHRONIZATION FOR 4G/5G DUAL-REGISTERED MOBILE COMMUNICATION TERMINAL - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18152066 titled 'METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SUPPORTING DATA SYNCHRONIZATION FOR 4G/5G DUAL-REGISTERED MOBILE COMMUNICATION TERMINAL
Simplified Explanation
The present disclosure describes a communication system that supports higher data rates beyond the current 4G LTE system, known as pre-5G or 5G.
- The system allows for the transfer of remaining data between different base stations in a dual-registration interworking process, ensuring terminal mobility between 4G and 5G networks without any data loss.
- This transfer of data is achieved without the need to change the implementation of 5G and 4G base stations, simply by adding a new equipment function such as SMF and UPF.
- The system also supports different Quality of Service (QoS) and forwarding path units in the 5G/4G networks without requiring changes to the base station functions.
- By delivering packets to the terminal in the same order during movement between 4G and 5G networks, the system eliminates the need for additional function implementation costs for re-ordering in both the terminal and the network.
Potential Applications
This technology can be applied in various industries and scenarios where high-speed and seamless communication is required, such as:
- Mobile telecommunications: Enabling smooth transition and handover between 4G and 5G networks without any data loss.
- Internet of Things (IoT): Supporting the transfer of large amounts of data between IoT devices and networks, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity.
- Autonomous vehicles: Facilitating real-time communication between vehicles and infrastructure, allowing for safer and more efficient transportation systems.
- Smart cities: Enabling fast and reliable communication between different components of a smart city infrastructure, such as sensors, cameras, and control systems.
Problems Solved
The technology described in this patent application addresses several challenges in the field of communication systems:
- Terminal mobility: It allows for seamless movement between 4G and 5G networks without any data loss, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity for mobile devices.
- Compatibility: The system supports different QoS and forwarding path units in both 5G and 4G networks, eliminating the need for extensive changes to base station functions.
- Cost-effectiveness: By avoiding the need for additional function implementation costs for re-ordering in terminals and networks, the technology reduces the overall expenses associated with implementing and maintaining communication systems.
Benefits
The use of this technology offers several benefits:
- High data rates: The system supports higher data rates beyond the capabilities of the current 4G LTE system, providing faster and more efficient communication.
- Seamless connectivity: It enables smooth transition and handover between 4G and 5G networks, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity for mobile devices.
- Cost savings: By avoiding the need for extensive changes to base station functions and additional function implementation costs, the technology offers a cost-effective solution for upgrading communication systems.
- Versatility: The system can be applied in various industries and scenarios, making it a versatile solution for different communication needs.
Original Abstract Submitted
The present disclosure relates to a pre-5-Generation (5G) or 5G communication system to be provided for supporting higher data rates Beyond 4-Generation (4G) communication system such as Long Term Evolution (LTE). The embodiments in the present disclosure allow to transfer remaining data between different base stations in a dual-registration interworking process, which provides terminal mobility between 4G and 5G networks without a data loss. Further, it provides the terminal mobility with no data loss without changing 5G and 4G base station implementation through addition of a simple function of new equipment, such as SMF and UPF. Further, it supports different QoS and forwarding path units in the 5G/4G networks without changing 5G and 4G base station functions. Further, it exempts additional function implementation costs for re-ordering in a terminal and a network through in-order delivery of packets to the terminal without changing the packet order during 4G-5G network movement.
